Mowing

Our Courses

Thinking of a change in lifestyle? Do you want to produce more of your own food? A family-run smallholding on anything from a half acre to twenty will give you a wonderfully fulfilling and healthy lifestyle and exceptionally tasty food. It may not support you economically, though and you need to understand the realities of hard work and muck!

These courses are intended to give you a real taste of the lifestyle and practical tuition in gardening, poultry keeping, small livestock, meadowing, timber harvesting on a small scale. The machinery and DIY skills you need will also be identified. This is a realistic taste of the lifestyle from a family of practitioners, Pat and Judit are by profession nature conservationists and agri-environmentalists, Niki and Zoli will tell you how children find living and enjoying the smallholding, having their own ventures!

As all courses include practical outdoor sessions, please bring suitable gear (rainwear, wellingtons, gloves, hats), and expect to get muddy… Lecture notes will be provided. Maximum 8 people per course, with two tutors, individual tuition and attention to detail is our goal.

Tea/coffee, refreshments and a two course lunch (much of the produce originating on the farm and all organic) will be provided.

If you can’t find the exact course you would like to attend, please contact us and we will try to accommodate you.

Up-coming courses:

– Introduction to keeping chickens

 – Poultry keeping (two days)

 – Smallholdings: a taster day

 – Introduction to running a smallholding (two days)

 – Goat keeping and dairying

– Sheep keeping

Vouchers are available for all occasions (Christmas, birthdays, graduations, team building etc) – give the gift of a new skill!

  2. Hi to all at Harmony,

Thank you so much for a brilliant day on the goat keeping and dairying course yesterday. The theory and practicle were both great fun and very informative.
It was great being able to get so much information, finding out that I can in actually milk a goat was a great relief, though Molly (9 yr old daughter) seems to be much more productive than me. : ) You were so patient with all of us.

As a complete novice to goats I now feel far more confident in buying and keeping a couple of goats to make cheese.

I also wanted to say that the food you cooked was fantastic and all home grown – you are a true wonder. River Cottage have serious competition. You should really be on the tv so more people can see how wonderful a lifestyle your whole family have through your commitment and hardwork to the farm and very happy animals.

With thanks for an amazing day. Eileen x

PS Molly wanted to say she had a great time making hay dens and playing on the farm with Zolit….thank you Molly x
